What Goes in to the Price of a Puppy?

It all starts with the parent dogs…. Without them, there would be no puppies, right? Our litters are carefully planned from the start to ensure we get the best puppies possible. This means selecting good, sound, healthy purebred parents with great characteristics that will be passed down to their pups. We travel the US to get our parent dogs from the best breeders. So, the very first expense is the cost of the parent dog as well as the cost of travel.

Once the parent dog joins our family, we start right away with veterinary visits and health tests to ensure the dog will be a good candidate for breeding and not likely to pass on hereditary illnesses commonly associated with their breed. (You should hear a cha-ching chime after every paragraph, because these expenses really add up quickly)!

Both parent dogs receive the best quality nutrition from puppyhood on through adulthood and are spoiled rotten with all kinds of accommodations to ensure they are happy, healthy, and in top condition. Toys, play-yards, field trips, play dates, daily brushing, weekly bath & blow-dry, special homemade food like sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, chicken and rice – you name it, they get it!

When it is time to start a litter, the momma dog is double checked to be sure she is healthy and able to carry a litter. Her diet and medication schedule are adjusted throughout the heat and pregnancy. She is monitored closely throughout the pregnancy. And her diet and medications are adjusted again after the litter is born.

Once the litter is born, the puppies are checked by our veterinarian and closely monitored by us to ensure their health and safety. We do not leave them alone, we are by their side every minute. This means we adjust our work schedule so that one of us is home at all times. If we both need to leave the house, we pay a puppy-sitter who is trained by us to stay with them. We raise the puppies the same way we do the parent dogs, with all the best accommodations. We take care of de-worming and vaccinations until they move on to their new homes. We expose them to a variety of situations in order to socialize them, like new sights and sounds and behaving well with children and around other animals. Check our page titled, “Raising Well-Rounded Pups” to see our process.

We maintain their social media accounts and webpage to ensure you can follow them every step of the way. We call, text, send photos, email, and video chat with prospective families to keep you up to date on every milestone.

And lastly, no puppy goes home empty handed. We send them off microchipped with a puppy bed, a blanket with their litter mates’ smell, a toy, a harness, a leash, a starter pack of food, a potty pad, potty grass, a tote bag and a folder with their vaccination and health records, AKC registration application, and breed specific tips.
