OUR BEAUTIFUL BREEDS
Learning about the origin and characteristics of a dog’s breed can be the most helpful information in choosing your new best friend!
Commonly noted as the most gentle of breeds, the Maltese is affectionate and eager. A toy dog weighing 7 pounds or less, he is covered from head to foot with long, silky, white hair. Maltese actually have hair rather than fur, so there is no undercoat. The hair sheds at a very slow rate, much like human hair. An ancient breed, the original job of the Maltese was one of a lap dog, a status symbol for royalty. Despite this aristocratic bearing, the Maltese are hardy, adaptable pets. Playful, protective, but sometimes stubborn and willful. The Maltese craves human attention and is happiest spending its time β you guessed it β in your lap!
Morkies are a result of breeding a purebred Maltese with a purebred Yorkshire Terrier. The Morkie combines the characteristics of the Maltese and the Yorkshire Terrier into one affectionate, spunky, playful little furball. Who wouldnβt want the energy of the terrier mixed with the sweet, loving nature of the Maltese? Just like the Maltese and the Yorkie, the Morkie weighs between 4 β 8 pounds and has hair rather than fur. They can be any combination of colors. They love to run and jump and play but are just as content to snuggle up and keep you company. Often commented to resemble a teddy bear, the Morkie is one of the most popular mixed breeds.
The Yorkshire Terrier is a compact, toy-size terrier of no more than seven pounds. Yorkies actually have hair rather than fur, so there is no undercoat. The hair sheds at a very slow rate, much like human hair. They are naturally smart and quick to learn due to their nature to work without human assistance. Yorkies are active, curious, fond of attention, and playful. Alert and protective, the Yorkie was originally bred to hunt mice and rats. Though they are small, they pack plenty of fearless attitude. The Yorkie makes a great watchdog and will let you know quickly at the first sight or sound out of the ordinary.
